I am the late great lover of them all
preserved in liquids
for the gawping multitude.
My scars show the protracted settlement
of forgotten crimes of passion.
Once stirred into action
by the muted declaration
of independence,
pilfered from my heart.

stripped down to basics,
for their general delight.

poised for the unspectacular,
a comfortable decline.
