Unfair to Martins
Our young martins have been going
solo. It’s time that they were off
indeed. Though they do not know it,
they’ve been at me all the afternoon;
Not for sympathy but teasing with
their twitters at my study window.
A dove-grey pair have made a flutter
to get in or say that they
are better at this flying than
I take it. The odds against are
high. Somewhere, I’d say, on
thermal waves. The chance is theirs.
‘Unkind to martins’. It’s just
the spiral in this ledger makes me
so. If they did but know the figures
take a lot of straightening out.
