Blank walls,
but the window frames the sea. Night long
it obliterates pramtracks from the beach.
All the little Midland shopkeepers are here
taking snapshots of it. As though the sea
had some identity. The lovely sopranos
along the pier sing their last numbers
and are gone. I tie awake a wave breaking
against blank walls.
