Take
When she found the camera on the beach
was it in marram grass below a dune
under a jetty almost out of reach
or sitting by a rockpool blinking sun?
Good find, Japanese, a little battered.
Some sticky tape to hold the back in place
would fix the only fault that really mattered.
It might be worthwhile finding it a case.
Did she hang it round her neck, take it home
finding the weight just right, ring him to say
she wouldn’t need to borrow, she’d got her own?
Did she rip the film out, fling it away
or did she finish it and send it off
impatient to assume her other life?
