The dud spawn of Galileo's eyes
that Milton saw
had seen the moon's grey sinuosities,
stars that were heretical.
My eyes
stuffed to bulging, sitting through
moonlandings, are at school
to instant history and home in
on marvels like a loon's.
Should I go blind and sit here long enough
someone's bound to trick me out,
to screw electrodes through the skull:
no need dictating masterworks.
There won't be that excuse.

He should have known
that Peter shopped his friend,
that the instruments of violence stand
at the centre of the universe.
