my father
Every day my sisters cleaned his boots.
But my father lived by his inventions.
When the war was over he ordered eggs
to be sent to him and corresponded with
various institutes. Returning from a
longish school outing one day I found
my room full of birds. They were sleeping
on my bookshelves and on my lamp. A
jackdaw opened the slit of its eye and
tried to talk to me. My youngest sister
uttered a cry.
