Correlation of sea and moon:
So strange an influence carried in a letter
On a pale postman’s back. Telling me
You must do this, you must do that.

Tugging on my tenderest sacs
My corrugated balls and brains:
I’m waiting to fall, to deliver a message,
Helical memory growing dimmer,
To cling to the earth at last and for ever.
Locked up in blue or black,
We move the food for burning or burial
Send heavenward verse in quotidian rhythm:
Welcome to the land of the living,
Where dreaming we talk to our old selves;
Making love, we swim together
In breaking waves on Terminal Beach.
