Spotted in the railway terraces at Tonbridge,
parrot among pigeons,
a cottage, brickwork painted lime green.
Brave vision has created a mint cake
beside the bread and butter.
An artist's house, or rebel,
the kind who wore black nail varnish to school,
still peacocking to shock.
Or homesick seasider in exile
dreaming salt,
wishing trains were ships.
