Death
Death caught his hand and pulled him around a bit.
Afterwards it said nice one mate, you can hold your own,
but knock off the crisps and the pastry, eat some real food,
you need to be leaner, fitter.
The metabolism needs to be faster.
Death used phrases like
let me ask you a question
and let me explain something to you
like they do in the gangster movies.
Death said it always got the better of life,
it goes without saying, y’know what I mean.
That was the thing that disappointed me about death.
Clichés.
Modes of thinking.
Stuck in a rut of trying to prove itself.
Down at the pub death wouldn’t stand out in a crowd
but death would be eyeing up the men and the women
at the bar on a Saturday afternoon
and even the girls and the boys walking outside.
One thing about death though.
Death didn’t discriminate.
Never heard it say anything sexist racist or
homophobic.
The last time I saw death
it was staring at someone,
nodding
with that smirk of arrogance,
just knowing.
