Hoodie crow
A tinker bird with ragged wings,
A scarecrow boy himself in tattered coat
Of fawn and black - the hoodie crow,
With crenate sails and villain’s croak,
Drifts in the mist along the hill
Or tears his prey upon the rock.
But when he planes along the path
Of the scooping wind and swoops to land,
Dark arrow-head against the salmon sky,
He’s vengeance falling swift and sure -
God’s flailing judgement on a carrion world.
R L Cook is Scottish. His poems have appeared in a wide variety of magazines in Britain, the USA and elsewhere.
