This image
Waking today's like coming round
with one cheek in the gravel
each stone stuck
embedded.
It's as though my eyes are
salted nuts
dropped in hot
and sour soup
and cotton wool has been sewn
in under the skin
over my face bones
inside my brow.
In my head there's this
image that won't leave:
see an aerial view
of me and you
(standing)
our heads bent over
our hair probably
touching.
We laugh and move
its hard to tell why
until we part and
our hands are visible.
We're cupping them together
we want to keep
the bird
we don't want it
hurt, we soothe it
coo at it.
Now it flies right up
between us
bomb blue
our faces emerge in wonder
catch its sudden going.
