Looking for Gorillas
We never found the gorillas, although
we did locate the source of the mighty Nile, where
it entered the world in a trickly discharge,
from a mossy womb, not far from some neat,
traditional houses, and an interesting example of
Belgian colonial architecture. But,
we never did find the gorillas,
in the mist, or out of it. In fact, I'm not sure
that we even found the mist, although we followed
the trails; examined snapped vegetation;
sat and watched patiently; worried about spore
and lack of spore, and almost broke a leg,
falling over half a snake, stretched like a
felled log across the orange path.
We never did find the gorillas, and
it was a long way to go and no–one
would have been any the wiser if
we'd said we had; like, secretly no–one
believed it was the Nile; or Belgian
colonial architecture, and all they wanted
to know about was Tutsis and Hutus,
and we couldn't help them there because
we were really only looking for gorillas.
