Alfred Bishop
A sort of sacrifice
A lion leaps over the sun
and high grass loops in slow motion
the thrusting intention of her head a lasso
a thud on my back rolls me into dust
others bounce up roaring hooray
their machines rage deep in my ears
flanks twitching paws pounding splits
they slice my neck and red sprinkles
arcs into the air
feel my arms ripping
bones sinews crack crunch
a young male yanks away
my lower leg flapping in my boot in his mouth
Hunger Stench
the rotten fruit of my opened-up belly
pretty beautiful clouds moving
in the perfectly beautiful sky
stop to notice the lions feast
my gurgles their growls our vibrations in rhythm
hear myself giggling through bubbles of blood
great warm licks on skin saliva mixes
bits of cloth
with bits of me
take this flesh I offer it
the stain I leave will dry and disappear
my thigh is stabbed ribs are snapping
I came from nothing I go to nothing
as the mind slips out of the brain
but I am bursting with power and joy.
Lions flip the dummy body.
