In middle age the island becomes
Privacy rather than relegation.
He was not inhospitable, he was merely
Fastidious. After the tax inspector had called,
Had counted the melons, and had rowed away,
He hosed down the crazy pavement
From his hut to the shore.
He’d throw a party, he said, if only
People wore hovercraft shoes
