psalm for igor stravinsky at the start of another summer
1. Silence
selects its seasons
between the known and
the unknown: structures
change and never disappear:
to get winter out of an old
man's head
say
"sudden water ... tree oceans
......mountain events......"
invent a new scream
invent a new dream
scrape the yellow
stones
of memory:
sing to the world
between its
lies:
the sound is the silence
at the end
of the dream.
2. Flesh
is like the corner of a field
where the sun seldom dies:
a movement
that inherits its own music
until the very end:
old flesh folding
into wounds of snow:
the music repeating,
echoing,
as the space
remains.
3. No song can ever be
sung
more than once:
it is a memorial
of itself
as soon as it
is born:
a chance
cut in air
solid
as
its ending.
