Conversation with My Sister
My bruised sister blurs
from my feet to the edge of the road,
her shape shifting up the verge.
A conversation over farms, mountains,
the city, to the sea. At the bay,
she stares out. I stare at this thinner
reflection of myself.
Yet not quite a reflection.
She doesn’t see the hare bolt, the orchids
pass, doesn’t smell the breezy camomile.
Still, she walks with me, isn’t hurt
when a car sprays gravel at our shins.
Disentangled from my ankles,
she strides ahead, allows herself to be seen.
