City Parks In The Summer
City parks in the summer are just beautiful. The murderers twist their iced blues so that the sticky saccharine juice doesn’t drip onto their fingers. The police car sirens whisper classic lullabies and even the dried up dog turds look like miniature rainbows curled up asleep in the sun. City parks are not like the countryside because they are always framed by restless buildings and when it rains the oil paint runs and merges into a colour that will never have a name.
In city parks in the summer the drug addicts happily detox on shady benches around the circumference, marvellous pregnant women idly scratch their belly buttons with twigs and we all study the grass like it’s a crucial exam paper.
In city parks in the summer I fear for the sanity of those people at their desks when the blinds are broken and the water in the cooler tastes like minestrone soup. In city parks everyone leans back on their elbows and looks at one another like they are long lost cousins or lovers from a time when the whole world was a park and we were all wardens with little peaked caps.
In city parks in the summer winter is just a skidmark on the underside of humanity and anything is possible.
