When he came to court
the revolving door waylaid him,
heaved into its ponderous turn
a great clock hand
slow as midnight.
It hushed him into a glass womb
for two seconds
and out
and then again
in and out of the world,
the sombre foyer,
cruel street,
treading and treading
and all the wrath in him
all the fear in him rising.
