DEREK WALCOTT, born in 1930 in Castries, St Lucia, has written several verse plays. In 1958 he was awarded a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship to study the American theatre. Two one-act plays were recently produced at the Royal Court. A volume of poems will be published in England next year.
PHILIP LARKIN is the author of a book of poems, The Less Deceived, and a novel, A Girl in Winter.
MICHAEL FISHER, born in England in 1933, has spent most of his life in South Africa, where he studied medicine and wrote his first short stories and a novel. Since then he has worked for a year in a London hospital, and for eighteen months in New York. His second novel, set in Bethnal Green, will be published by Cassell.
EDWIN BROCK, once a policeman, has published two volumes of poems.
TED HUGHES, born in 1930 in West Yorkshire, won the First Publication Award of the Poetry Centre of New York for his collection of poems, The Hawk in the Rain. He was one of the contributors to the volume of short stories, Introduction, recently published by Faber.
JOHN CRUICKSHANK is a lecturer at Southampton University, and the author of a study on Camus.
JOHN WHITING, who lives in Sussex, has worked on several film scripts and television plays. His stage plays include A Penny for a Song, Saints’ Day, Marching Song and The Devils, the last now running at the Aldwych Theatre.
JOHN FULLER has a volume of poems coming out soon with Chatto & Windus. He is at present doing research at Oxford.
