Inuit
Silver shadows
come forth
between silence and thunder
on flaming ridges
from lights and mountain passes
Light shadows
glide away
on deserts rippled with ice.
On the crests
I see their bows
move like wolf bites,
scratch my heart in their run.
I lift my arms
and I cry to the fjords
the names of my dead
and the dawns of the world
cast imprints
on the evening voices.
Inuit brothers,
give my heart
the dawn of the day,
give the moon the warmth
of the night
Cast sparks
to the memories of our fathers
and lift,
lift dreams and wings
to the soft hues
of the winter mantles.
