Mathieu Bénézet is a French poet, living in Paris. He has several volumes in Flammarion’s Collection Digraphe : Dits et récits du mortel ; L’imitation de Mathieu Bénézet (awarded the Prix Feneon, 1978) ; Le fin de l’homme; Pantin, canal de l’ourcq.
Kjell Espmark was born 1930, and lives in Stockholm, where he is a Professor at the University. He has published four volumes of poetry (counting the Sent i Sverige trilogy as one). His three critical books include one on Harry Martinson & another on Artur Lundkvist. He has received many prizes in Sweden. Kjell Espmark is married with two children.
Harry Guest: born Glamorganshire 1932, educated Cambridge and The Sorbonne; married to the novelist Lynn Guest; 2 children. Lecturer at Yokohama National University 1966-72. Currently Head of Modern Languages at Exeter School. Recent books Days (a novel) (Anvil Press 1978); Elek Book of Oriental Verse (Japanese section - 1979). Forthcoming: The Six Elegies (Pig Press, Durham), and a translation of Hugo - The Distance, The Shadows (Anvil). David Jaffin’s Selected Poems will appear at the end of this year from Massada in Israel, the poems being presented with en face Hebrew translations by Menachem Ben. How about a Collected, someone?
John Levy is one of the three poets in 3 (Lenghouse Press, 1978), with Bob Arnold & David Giannini. His book, Among the Consonants, will be published by The Elizabeth Press in 1981 (distrib. SPD) He is currently living near Berkeley, California.
John Perlman - born breech in a blackout, Alexandria, Virginia 1946. First poem w/Poem affirming visitation after long invocation, wise & reflexive heart-i-ness: 1965. Since: Jan, Nicole, wife and daughter for family. Oblique relation to NYC and much foot travel in the Appalachians. Books from Ohio State Univ. Claude Royet-Journoud, born Antibes 1942, now lives in Paris and works for Radio France. His two full-length collections, Le renversement and La notion d’obstacle were published by Gallimard in 1972 and 1978 respectively. More recent work has appeared in Digraphe, the journal from the Flammarion publishing house, including a work-in-progress which exemplifies the working methods described in the interview. Keith Waldrop’s complete translation of the first book (Reversal) is now out of print. Até, a text from the second volume, is however available from Shearsman. Royet-Journoud has also recently edited a special number of the Revue de l’Université de Bruxelles devoted to contemporary French and American poetry, under the title Travail de Poésie.
Keith Waldrop, like Rosmarie, is equally well-known as a poet and as a translator. His most recent full-length books are The Garden of Effort, (Burning Deck) and Windfall Losses (Pourboire Press) - both available from Burning Deck. He teaches at Brown University.
