Kay Green
The Silent Poet
This immobilised wanderer,
caught in silver silk
of his own spinning:
his instinctive love of earth,
which yet cannot stoop
to loving an acre of ground:
his romantic stubbornness,
expressed in colourful drab,
throws a treacherous midnight light
on his refusal to stay or go,
or let others rest in difference
to what he knows, but cannot tell
to those who don’t.
