Caroline Natzler
Liminal
Cold, taken from their place
the flush frozen into the skin
each shining fruit intact
as if there'd been no stem, no snapping
only inside is something carried over
from a different air, sharp
warm with grains of turning earth.
They lift, these strawberries
perfect as replicas,
from a see-through box
like those plastic hospital cribs
for newborn babies.
