Journey
Together we walked in the snow,
my beautiful girl and I,
Would you rather I kept these things secret?
she asked, as we set our feet
in the white snow, in the nothing but snow.
I said, Yes, yes, please spare me the facts—
And we stopped beneath the magnolia, saw
the first of the blossoms, rusty with frost.
Looked back at our tracks behind us there—
criss-crossed, dark, in the white snow.
