I came across a creature
smashed to a pulp on my kitchen floor.
I did not know what it was
but I scooped up the trembling
mess in my arms
I felt a heart beating.
How could I begin to put
the bloody bits and pieces
back together again?
Helpless, I wanted to drop it and run
but then it reached
brokenly up toward me…
