The man in the drink
As a child, I once read a story in an annual,
About the rescue of a pilot,
Who had crashed into the middle of the sea,
The story was called,
“The man in the drink”.
For some unknown reason,
The title of that story must have played on my
mind,
And shortly afterwards
I started having a recurring nightmare.
On top of my bedside table, a glass of water,
And trapped inside the glass,
Tapping against the side, trying to get out,
The tiny figure of a man, screaming.
“Helps Help! get me out, I’m drowning!”
And in the dream, I lay there, paralysed with
fear,
Watching him die,
With hatred in his eyes.
