Haibun: Routes
Walking. This beach my thinking space. Deserted. Sand snakes around submerged calves, flexing like river pushed waters. Summits of sand above the storm, dotted with rain, texture of pumice, the camouflage on the back of a school of whale sharks, swimming in the waters that spread to the shores of Devon. Ancient undulations rest on the blue-gray channel like clouds. Walking home from university, lectures lost in the sand, roaring wind, the pushing of my jacket against my body. Cold ears, face hiding in this cave like scarf, my breath, humid, smothered against lips and cheeks. Peace.

glad for the wind a gull whips easily into the clouds |
