Joseph dreaming
There was a shepherd in the field
and two angels smoothing the air
around him. He did not see this:
the heavenly escorts, the God-mark
on his forehead, but at night
something would tug his arm softly
like a child, pulling him to sleep.
There in the pasture, the tall grass
spread around him like fingers
through hair. One angel curled
in the empty space
left by his body, the other
whispered heavenly secrets
while God fell over them like dew.
