Dripanddrop
when the world is puddle-wonderful—E.E. Cummings
it’s time to take stock of these surroundings:
this flat town
lies prostrate before itself, there’s
little rain can clutch before it reaches foot level,
seeps into the earthen conscience
just bungalows that barely reach the wires—
conversations
tripping from house to house tohousetohouse
but not ours, ring-silent again this morning
no one asking
will youandI come running from dogwalks or movierentals.
Here we attend the gatherings of dripanddrop
come running
through pools of mucky water, the shaky mirrors those
little miracles
of a day offering something akin to apathy.
You are a revelation in waiting and I
like a roman hero will bare you to my shoulders
side step these puddles of rain
as we have been.
