This broken column -
smoke
That’s how the columns
on the Greek temples
shimmer in my dream Athens
From the eyes
of the sated man-eater
pours smoke
my word has been blackened
by it
I swallow bitter pills
of thirty-year smoke
my voice chokes
in the smoke of the eternal ghetto
in beautiful
barbaric lands
Put the fire out brother
when no one’s looking
