Winter Mood
Gutted rosehips in dank December
sag shredskins around gapes
that hint at budpeppering
and recall rosebloom’s
astonishment of pink out of green.
Pre-Christian presence;
mouthgapes in greylight
windwhisper at dusk
of budpeppering,
affirming Gaiarole,
before stormwinter
hurls some to humus.
And my slow cycle enters a hiatus
between strength and dissolution,
and I dream of bones bared
in crumblegape of my coffin,
and hoversouls that witness
wombstir for growthyears
and impossible journeys among stars.
And gutted rosehips
twist into smiles
this dank December night.
