ripper
A blue city and a green city, and when I walked along its roads I
looked out of my world and up at the sky and out of the world and
I was like a hungry cookpot, drinking it into my mouth like foam that day,
I lapped. Like kittens with my fangs well hidden, like a goat with
blind and stupid evil in its eyes.
And there was a time when I said I didn’t feel
quite so cut in two
a time when I was quite lovely, when I was with you.
When I was a child and I was with you
but I was a girl, and I was never with you.
A black city and a gold city, and a rain just fell in scrapers,
and it’s taller than the world, amazing in the world where
crazy buildings are so dizzy in their moving skies they’re falling, moving.
Move me and I rock
and beetle
and I sand and groan, and lime out,
madder. Madder.
Always I was hoping always
for a second to hand me out the day to say
the words, and always
when I left you I was
madder, dark and melon, furious and cold.
Unfulfilled and disappointed,
always always in my grave each day,
gay and white as cherry for you, ripe and swelled and buried for you,
learning all your lessons, learning everything
you had to teach. Come out,
come out, wherever you are, and I’m the ripper.
