Balloons
The child in me whispered, “Do it!”
I bought them at the Stationery Store
Where helium breathed life
Into rubber spheres
of blue
green
red
yellow
Attached to pink lassoes
All gathered together
As they fought to rise
like
a
Phoenix
Releasing them to soar
higher
and
higher
Into the wind -
Intangible slashes of color
Dots on the horizon
Dappling Cumulus
Ghostlike
Disappearing
behind
scudded
apparitions -
Caressing the sun
My heart beating wildly
With quickened energy ....
As the child in me whispered:
“Do it again!”
