Empty rooms
Outlined in gold from a distant, dying sun,
The shadow of your imperishable ghost
Still haunts these empty, deserted rooms,
Where in days past such sadness reigned.
Fleeting, barely perceived presence,
Perhaps there is only an echo now;
A distant, lonely call, that pierces my
Fragile heart, but remains obscure, like
A whispered, incomplete conversation,
Muffled words, or merely a tenuous, sighing
Voice, hardly penetrating this dark shell of
Matter that forms our vast, eternal prison cell.
Yet I long for re-incarnation in the responses
Of our fused and sacred flesh, becoming,
If only in our mutual dreams,
A heavenly mutation: an angelic androgyne,
My destiny, my sister.
There is no voice, I fear;
It is only the bare floorboards of these empty
Rooms, creaking beneath my faltering steps,
As I wander through chamber after dusty chamber
Searching for traces of your fragile, sundered spirit.
Outside there is no magic garden,
There is no mystic isle;
Just the heaving, limitless, crimson sea.
