Editorial
Time to say Thank you. Upward of 4,000 poems have been submitted in three years, yet poetry is rare, which is why we are so indebted to those who have made Brando's Hat a must read for all who are seriously interested in modern poetry.
This Issue kicks off with a slight innovation, a poem by Milner Place which is too long for publication in a single issue. As it conveniently breaks into three discrete sections, we plan to publish it over three issues. We do this with some reluctance, but the whole poem would take up about half the available space, and as we are anxious to publish it in its entirety, it seemed the most reasonable compromise.
Of the poets published here, seven are new to Brando's Hat, and of the others, two were quite unknown when their work first appeared in this magazine and cite the Hat as opening doors for them. An overstatement I'm sure. Sufficient that we recognised talent at an early stage and gave it a little nudge. In the life of a poetry editor there is no moment can match that opening of the envelope and being met by a new, exciting voice. Those are the moments we live off.
So to all our contributors, the new and the familiar, all who have raised our spirits on grey days, a sincere Thank you; and similarly to our subscribers, without whom the magazine, however good, could not continue. We need many more of you. Our thanks also to North West Arts Board for its continuing support.
