For the price Smoke is a good little magazine. It has an air of honesty about it. Apart from a few black and white illustrations the poems are allowed to speak for themselves: no articles, no reviews, no contributor notes, just honest poems. The honesty of daily life is illustrated in Matt Simpson's line
A drawer of kitchen knives rusting away
Honesty also appears in greater truths, as in Touch the First by Love Sacha Phiri,
mountains which only spoke the language of the dead
Smoke is to be recommended for its quality and unbelievably low price.
