Floater
'A vitreous detachment,' he explained,
'has caused this big black dot that you now see.'
A spectral bug, unwelcome, unrestrained,
as though aloft in space it, it follows me.
Supposedly it's all inside my eye;
he said I shouldn't give it that much thought.
With age, a common ailment. Yet it flies
around the room. I understand I ought
just go about my daily round, pretending
that it's not always watching me (in turn).
But isn't there a message that it's sending,
a sober truth it's urging me to learn?
Detached observer of my waning days,
eyeing me through vision's inner gaze.
