the company great,
though I couldn’t believe
all the lobster she ate
and the foie gras; such sang froid
she showed as she forked
in the mouthfuls of truffles
and cream as we talked.
Then the steak frites with salsify,
strawberry sponge -
with every new order
my heart took a plunge.
Here’s the bill! I feel ill!
