Rescue
Marooned on a mushroom cap
I was not my father’s favourite
He slurped his soup
Pileus and stipes bumping
Against bushy upper lip
Children wearing paper capes and crowns
Danced around the kitchen table
Daring his rebuke
We watched him thrashing in warm seas
Feet never scraping bottom
I clung to my fungus island
Hoping his strokes would save me
