Sex
Speak of the time
when sex has come
To a boy and a girl alive:
in a bright shining lake
In a secret wood
in a darkness deep as the grove.
Speak of the checks
to limit the sex
Of the boy and the girl to this:
in a grown-up bed
Words are said
night after night after bliss.
Speak of the day
when the nights are too
Short for the sum of the parts:
working alone
Living as one
in the glorious sex of their hearts.
Speak of the curse
their actions arouse
In the waters of paradise lost:
see how they swim
In the cock and the quim
not waving not drowning but blest.
Speak of the acts
their charter of sex
Hangs in the halls of the lands:
the bright shining words
(Sheltered by God’s)
written by quivering hands.
