Will she

will she come do you think? I’m all of a dangle
again, the ginseng makes my hair curl
and when she pulls her trousers up over her knees she’s a lexicon
of unusual meanings for the word “chums”.

I’m having a bath in case she comes.
what a way to spend Sunday morning, thinking of Mexico
and its unpronounceable names. (the raped slave girl
plods through the sixteenth century jungle:

an arborescent sarcophagus diminishes to a rectangle
as intricate nose-flutes skin
through the blue frost of Oaxaca
and Montezuma’s entourage succumbs.

crescendo on carotid drums
as Cortez tries to get his armour off: his eczema
itchy as a broken record of the erl-
king, jockeyed by the quangle wangle).

I hope she comes. her scandinavian ankle
in its striped sock could unfurl
a pomological revolution in plexiglass
and lead to the development of new plums.
