83 Wyeverne Road
This is our house of thought.
It is full
of junk and crap
and dirty dishes piled high,
of things collected because we like them,
of bottles of wine we drank last week,
of inspiration and thoughts and futures
all suspended.
This table alone
has heard so much
when we rest our mugs
with the 11 others
among the magazines and letters
and library books well overdue.
The TV serves as talking point
always chattering and buzzing
for our night unravellings
about power on a personal level,
world leaders and what the colours mean,
and what is there after all of this,
and how does fashion come about,
and did you hear what Rachel said,
and what about the washing up?
Threads of theories reel off
and scatter in the coffee stains.
Does this house stop buzzing ever?
We’ve talked so long
I’m getting tired
of all the thoughts that just won’t stitch.
We bail out to the local,
and put ourselves on standby.
Our house can breathe and go to sleep
amongst the mugs and dirty saucepans
piles of paper, floating thoughts.
Silent and still, it waits for us,
to come with lights and sprawling chatter.
With the inside world, it watches,
as together we spin our tapestries.
