Glass
Brought to life
by perfect, controlled light.
A slim-stemmed, clear-glass goblet
whose square-shaped sides
are hung with tiny beads, like tears.
A fat, sage-green chalice
with knubbly roundels, ‘prunts’,
grazing its smooth skin, like abrasions.
And the colours: straw opal -
a creamy blonde, swirled into sky blue;
gold, flecked through dense purple;
ruby red, singing like blood.
The bang,
like a heavy case of precious objects dropped.
The old building ticking, ticking in shocked settlement.
Every kind of alarm and siren triggered by the blast
and, not far away,
glass,
flying splinters of sharp, jagged glass.
