Production report
Looking back about fifty years,
A vivid scene my memory stirs,
steaming coolers, rising high,
Washing coke plants, to purify.
Dripping liquid fills the wells,
putrid, oily, and evil smells.
fouling streams, and polluting the air,
Most nauseating, when passing there.
Flowing into the rivers, what is worse,
than poisoning fish,chemicals dispersed,
A finished product, but the sluice, a curse.
Too high a price to pay for progress,
Too low the means, to alter process,
what has time and skill, achieved?
Industrial smog, is still not relieved,
it's blotting out the sun we get,
We're more accustomed to getting wet.
More pleasant pastures are claimed, and yet,
Our housing situation cannot be met,
We've lost the family life we had,
The 'Tele', Disco's and Bingo's go mad,
With such environment produced,
This "Happy Breed" is sadly reduced.
