I read your comments with interest in the Editorial ‘Wales and Film’
(New Welsh Review 75). It’s good to see attention being given to a ‘new’ art form which has only just passed its hundredth birthday!

I wanted to write to express encouragement for this attention and perhaps to clarify that the new Film Agency for Wales has not instituted ‘a major overhaul of (the) subsidy structure’. The subsidy structure remains the same, with lottery finance being available for both script/project development and project finance. This remains the same, although now the Film Agency looks after this as a delegated body of the Arts Council of Wales. We, the board and the officers of the Film Agency for Wales, would all agree with you that our intention is to promote and support a decade and more of ‘passionate and inventive films’ from Wales.
