Shine On Harvest Moon
Paper moon
flat over the dead summer
and lolling like a little tongue.
Brass moon
star ship dropping pale ballast
on brittle gardens
closed down for winter
and shuttered like closed shops.
Cardboard moon of hunkering down
hang-gliding over corn stalks
painted brown
and twisted into brittle bouquets
as apples spill their spoiled color
on the ground.
Moon over Miami
Moon and Sixpence
Carolina Moon.
Man in the moon
winking down
burning low
raking the last fossil leaves
with your rusty beams
unleashing the werewolves of winter
splashing then with bronze light
as they hover over the edge
of the picture
dangling like spider webs
from the frame
waiting for the first stiff tongue
of ice
to slide them down
flick them in
waiting for your hot orange disk
to burn down from bronze to tin
