Brown Slippers
Six brickies call for lodgings Mrs Bell greets them with a smile
Four in the big attic, two in the small.
She loves the Geordies, pay on time
with a smile, never any trouble.
Bill, big, quiet, thousand bricks a day man
leads the gang. Girl watches Bill
placing his slippers under the chair,
if there’s a chance she’ll go
got her bags packed ready
this place is far too slow.
For a blonde that likes to run
yes, she runs every where.
When she makes up his bed
she lies on his bed, lies and sniffs the air
hugs his slippers soft brown slippers,
those from under the chair.
She’ll not leave them there.
She eyes the opportunity testing his integrity
calculates the goal of his heart and soul.
With slippers soft and brown they both
slide off to town. He buys her a dress
of pale blue satin, she twirls the skirt
out wide
He buys her a ring with a shiny diamond
she takes his arm with pride and knows
that whoever walks in these slippers
will also walk to the head of her table.
