A Different November
Day with a faint air of menace to it
A gang of youths has vandalised a train
Severe delays now, too late for a bus
So you can’t go to the forest and meet
The damp decay, the last few fiery leaves.
Hostile place, can’t feel at peace
Cosy world forever gone
Air presses in heavily
Relief to be home, stretch out
But something haunts, won’t let up.
I used to love the misty dimming light
Of a November evoking magic,
Fireworks, sparklers, frosty dark looking in.
Now it’s all bangs and the horror looms large,
Evil too real, taunting spirits let loose,
Trying to obscure the stars, turn the day
To shadow of night, capture the planets
To circle round an anti-sun instead.
