The Unnameable Difference
After today there will be a change
and the wild heart, risk taker, running ahead
will slow to celebrate the unnamable difference.
Tongues will be warmed by miracles,
words wrung with light
so that we will talk the artistry of rainbows
and the silvery echo of rain.
We will be star-gazers,
able to steer the riddles of a laden sky,
knowing the glint of comets
and the flat pool of moon.
And there will be a breathing-in
of seasons and salt breezes,
and we will bend to hear older mysteries
until we are alive with being loved.
Nothing will have changed for the day,
for the sun as it lightens drystone walls and leafy trees,
slides over far cities, washing out streets and back alleys,
ignites the cold and silent hills... ....
but for us there will have been this affirmation
and the unnamable difference afterwards.
