knowing my own output
has never been lower
knowing I’m back in on Saturday
to clear the backlog
and clear my head
for another torrential week –
I plan ahead
and still buy this portrait
of a man I admire
who will take the boys out
to museums, swim
and drink moderately,
surprise his wife with tickets
for the Chantry singers’
Magnificat by Monteverdi,
read long into the night
and rise early
to see to the garden.
Happy the man
who knows not just what he can do
but what he will do
with time on his hands
and the devil’s work
to be done.
